If you haven’t been watching this season of American Idol then you probably think Sanjaya is some sort of new Fusion Fruit Drink or maybe a new Web App.
I wish that were the case actually, if it were then maybe I wouldn’t feel embarrassed about the content of this article.
I wouldn’t say that I watch the show but my wife has it on from time to time and naturally I catch glimpses of it.. (how’s that for an attempted save?)
Anyway, there is this dude on the show that really sucks but somehow doesn’t get voted off. I figure that is either due to some sort of teenage girl following that I would never understand in the first place or simply because people want the train wreck to keep appearing on television.
If you haven’t already heard (and if you even care), there are websites out there devoted to messing with the results of American Idol. VoteForTheWorst.com and Destroy American Idol attempt to rally support for the worst contestant on the show just to upset the producers or something like that (I don’t really care why).
The longer Sanjaya and contestants like him stay on the show the more press these types of sites get. VoteForTheWorst for example has been featured on Howard Stern’s show, FoxNews, CNN and DrudgeReport just to name a few. The Howard Stern show actually championed the cause and asked listeners to vote for Sanjaya to stay.
All of that to say, that votefortheworst.com has been down all day today.
Today is a voting day (the only one of the week) and rumor has it that perhaps Fox had something to do with bringing the site down (DOS attack?). Either that or more likely the site has just become a victim of too much press and the recent hits have overwhelmed it.
I guess we won’t know for sure until the site comes back up and they mention the downtime.
In the meantime this makes for good water cooler talk.
