My new HP laptop is great; I’m really happy with the purchase thus far but I do have one concern…

There is an ominous sound which seems to be coming from the hard drive. It isn’t the regimented click that I used to hear from my old Maxtor hard drives just before they failed - this one is different.

The sound is a very high pitched sound that is only audible if your ear is at just the right position. The sound isn’t a steady ‘ringing’ either; it seems to emit intermittently as an almost scratchy kind of noise. I’m not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

Either way, It’s time I got serious about my backups.
